About Me

Phlourish Physio

I am originally from Aberdeenshire, have a BSc (Hons) in Anatomy, MSc In Sports Medicine and an MSc in Physiotherapy which I gained in 2011.

Since qualifying as a physio, I have worked in private practice with a variety of individuals of varying ages, abilities, activity and sporting levels, from those looking to overcome injury or surgery to those who want to improve general day to day function and longevity.

In sport, I have specifically worked in triathlon from elite to club level and with world-class coaches, providing manual physiotherapy sessions and giving drills and skills sessions. I was a locum physio for British Triathlon and Triathlon New Zealand and I have been a physio with the GB Mountain Running squad and a British GT motor racer whom I sponsored.

As mentioned, I work in a very holistic way, looking at the whole body, mind and lifestyle, placing high priority in identifying issues, movement patterns and habits that may have contributed to the injury and pain. This helps enhance recovery and prevent future problems.

I understand personally and professionally how any kind of trauma, whether that be emotional, psychological or physical, can impact and be stored in the body. This can influence pain, movement, inflammation, immunity, breathing and the overall rehabilitation of a client so I work with this in a gentle and mindful way.

Prior to becoming a physio, and after working in the Sports Medicine/Exercise Physiology industry, I was a professional triathlete representing Great Britain in long-course and ironman distances. However, due to a serious biking accident, my career ended there. Once I rehabbed myself with the help of a wonderful holistic physio and other therapists, I retrained as a physiotherapist, which I love. This personal history has inspired me to study and work in a holistic and alternative way and have an added and keen interest in head and face trauma, brain injury and brain health and how this impacts the whole person so to help others.

I am passionate about what I do, am constantly challenging myself, learning and developing my skills to enhance my knowledge and ability to help, so I will work hard with the client to get them where they want to be, but equally, I expect them to do their part (the rehab) to compliment and enhance the treatment!

In my free time I enjoy hill and mountain walks/shuffles, strength training, yoga and other movement-based practices and in studying various ways to enhance health and well being throughout life. I love a good coffee and a bit of dark raw chocolate…soul food :-)!
